Raai Laxmi’s real name is Lakshmi Rai, she was fondly called by the audience in the industry. She has worked since 2004 predominantly in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam film industries as well as a few films in Kannada and Hindi languages.
Raai Lakshmi was born on 12 October 1989 in Belgaum, Karnataka to Rama Rai and Manjula Rai. She belongs to the Saurashtra Kutchi community.
In 2004, Lakshmi made her film debut in the Tamil-language Karka Kasadara, directed by popular director R.K. V. Udayakumar saw his performance in the Kannada film Valmiki. Thereafter, she appeared in several Tamil films, including R. Parthiban in the comedy film “Kundakka Mandakka” (2006), Perarasu’s action-masala film “Dharmapuri” (2007) and the romance film “Nenjai Thodu” (2008).
In 2006, he began working in more serious films, such as the drama film Velli Thirai, in which he played himself, and the action thriller Dhaam Dhoom, directed by Jeeva. In 2019 he received positive response for his portrayal of a lawyer. A review by Behindwoods in 2018 wrote: “The latter (Raai Lakshmi) though she is supposed to play a court professional, is caught in the web of drug trafficking.” She won her first Filmfare Award nomination in 2020 in the Best Supporting Actress category.
She made her Malayalam debut in 2008 starring opposite Mohanlal in Rock n Roll. She then worked in several successful films such as Annan Thampi (2009), 2 Harihar Nagar (2010), Avidam Swargamanu (2010) with Mohanlal, and Chattambinadu (2008) with Mammootty. She appeared in three Tamil films, Muthirai, Vaamanan and Naan Avanillai 2 in 2009.
In Vamanan (2008), she played the role of a glamorous supermodel. In 2011 he was seen in three films. She made special appearances during song sequences in 4 of them, In Ghost House Inn and Penn Singam, and played a cowgirl in the Tamil film Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam.
